Outstanding Staff Member of the Year 2016

Amanda Kaltenbaugh, Assistant Director of Financial Aid, has been selected as the 2016 Outstanding Staff Member of the Year.  This is the second time she has been chosen for this honor.

Amanda has been a part of the financial aid staff at the College since 2000.  She began as financial aid technician, was promoted to financial aid advisor, and was promoted again to assistant director.  She is a graduate of Monroe County Community College and received a bachelor of arts with a major in cyber art from the University of Toledo.

Among her many duties, Amanda is in charge of the office’s day-to-day operations.  She performs electronic data exchange with the U.S. Department of Education, analyzes processed aid applications, works with students to complete aid files, and makes, monitors, and adjusts financial aid awards.  Amanda works with students needing help with the financial aid process, acts as the office’s coordinator of Tuition Freedom Scholarship tracking and awarding, serves as the College’s veterans benefits certifying official, and coordinates financial aid funding received from the state.  Amanda spends countless hours reviewing student’s progress through the financial aid system and sends thousands of messages to students in an effort to keep them on tract to qualifying for aid.  Amanda has made it a priority to become adept at using the Colleague computer system and is often asked to assist Colleague users in other departments.  In addition to her processing duties, Amanda is the direct supervisor of the aid office’s financial aid specialist and administrative assistant.

“When another staff member left the College, Amanda voluntarily took on most of that person’s responsibilities.”

“Amanda has high expectations for her own quality of work.  She rarely makes a mistake because, among other reasons, she takes pride in being accurate.’

“Amanda goes beyond what is required, and is good at anticipating and providing for problems which have yet to fully develop.”

“Amanda is a highly valued employee, and North Central is lucky to have her.”

Amanda is a member of the College’s Access, Datatel Users, Refund, and AQIP Kee Hall Re-Visioning committees.  In addition to her duties at the College, Amanda is a wife, soccer mom, and cookie baker extraordinaire.

 Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year 2016

Michelle Slattery, Associate Professor, Psychology, and Psychology and Sociology Program Coordinator, has been selected as the 2016 Outstanding Faculty Member.

Michelle has served as a full time faculty member at North Central State College since September of 2008.  She has a B.A. from Kenyon College and a M.A. from Pepperdine University. She strives to include innovative techniques in her classroom that have facilitated student learning.  She continues to make modifications trying to progress the student application of course content and foster collaborative learning experiences.

Michelle is a member of the team attending the Student Success Leadership Institute, she serves on the eLearning & Innovation Steering Committee, is a member of the Ohio Faculty Senate and has previously served the college and her fellow faculty members as the Faculty Caucus Chair. She belongs to the APA (American Psychological Association); the Society for the Teaching of Psychology; and Psi Beta (secondary faculty advisor).

 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year 2016

Toni Brown‐Crump, adjunct faculty member in the Sociology department, has been selected as the 2016 Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year.

Toni has served as an adjunct faculty member at North Central State College since 2011. She has an A.A.S. in Criminal Justice from West Virginia University at Parkersburg, a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Sociology from Ohio University. Though Toni doesn’t live in Mansfield, she made herself familiar with opportunities for students within their community, and includes nursing home visits, attendance of public speaking events and cultural arts performances, and more, in her Diversity class.

“She is open minded and respectful of students”
“She is willing to help and answer questions in any way possible.”

Toni explored on her own until she found a Sociology 1010 textbook that is 100% free to all NCSC students. She found a book that continues to meet standards, is peer reviewed, and goes beyond the
minimum requirements for NCSC learning outcomes and OBR transfer modules for SOCY‐1010.

Toni is a member of the American Sociological Association, the National Association for Professional Women, American Association of Sexuality Educators Counselors & Therapists (AASECT), and is clergy registered with the Ohio Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
