First, some ground rules: All recipients must:

You need to be admitted to North Central State College through the Student Development Office and enrolled in a degree-granting program.

Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen.

Have registered with Selective Service if 18 years of age. (Males only)

Finally, all students must be making satisfactory academic progress towards their degree.

Eligibility

Eligibility for most types of financial aid is based on a student's demonstrated need.  Even students with no need, however, can receive student loans.  The extent of student need is determined through an analysis of the income and assets of the student's family.  Most students can qualify for enough aid to pay for all of their tuition expenses.  A number of students can receive aid to pay for books and gasoline expenses in addition to tuition.

The Application Process

General Process – required to apply for any type of aid at NC State.  When the General Process is complete, you eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant and an Ohio Instructional Grant will have been determined

1.      Apply for aid is filling out a FAFSA or Renewal Application.  You may fill out a FAFSA application online at www.fafsa.ed.gov Need help filing it out? Contact us, or call 1-800-4FED-AID.

2.      Complete and submit the North Central State Financial Aid Data Form to our office.

3.      High School/GED documentation - All federal aid applicants must prove that they are high school graduates or GED recipients.  A copy of your diploma, transcript, or certificate can be used.  Submit documentation to the Financial Aid Office.

Verification

The federal processor selects many financial aid applicants for verification.  This is a procedure through which the College is required to check the accuracy of some of the items on your FAFSA.  If you are selected, you will need to submit to the College certain financial documents including, but not limited to, a copy of your previous year federal income tax return (Form 1040).  The Financial Aid Office will instruct you on exactly what is needed.

Special Circumstances

If your family income drops significantly from what was reported on the FAFSA or if your family incurs large and unusual expenses, contact the Financial Aid Office.  It may be possible to have your eligibility for financial aid re-evaluated and based upon your current financial situation.

Processing Time

About one month is required to process the FAFSA.  The federal student aid processor will mail you a Student Aid Report (SAR) explaining your eligibility when processing is complete.

Processing a student loan takes an additional month after the FAFSA is processed.

Award Notification

After the financial aid process in complete an award notification will be mailed out showing an estimated amount of aid you will receive each quarter if you attend full-time.  The actual amount of your aid will be established after you have registered for and attended class.
