Cover Letter Don'ts
For assistance with the job search, please contact
mrodriguez@ncstatecollege.edu.
- Don't have any degree of
arrogance or cockiness in your cover letter.
- Don't send out a general or
blanket cover. Customize it to fit each position to which you
are applying.
- Don't make it too long or too
short. If it is more than one page it is too long.
- Don't rewrite your resume.
- Don't send your resume without a
complete spelling and grammar check.
- Don't be wordy.
- Don't forget to sign your
letter.
- Don't address the person by
their first name unless you have already received permission to do
so.
- Don't use slang or technical
jargon.
- Don't exaggerate your experience
or say things you can not back up in the interview.
