Progress Report 1
February 28, 2008 - The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the commencement of the search for the next president of North Central State College. This is one of the most important decisions the Board will make and will have long term implications in deciding the direction of North Central State College for years to come. This is a very exciting time for the College and we are committed to a participatory process that will involve the college community.

The Board has selected the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) to assist with the search for our next president. Dr. Larry Poole will serve as our Search Consultant with the assistance of Lee Novak, Board Services Specialist. ACCT has conducted over 300 community college searches and will bring a wealth of information to our process. ACCT’s mission is to strengthen community college governance through education, advocacy and service. Dr. Narcisa Polonio, Vice President for ACCT Leadership Services has assembled a team including ACCT reference consultants and ACCT staff to assist in this process.

We are committed to conducting an equitable, fair and national search that will attract a strong pool of candidates. We plan to do this in an accelerated manner, with an aim to drawing the process to a close before the summer break. We are committed to undertaking a process that will allow us to keep the college community informed and involved. We will make every effort to do so through the distribution of regular progress reports, and posting information on the College’s web page.

Presidential Search Committee
As previously publicized, the Board of Trustees has finalized the membership of the Search Committee. We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the members of the Search Committee for their willingness to serve in this important capacity. The charge to the Committee includes reviewing applications and presenting recommendations on candidates for consideration by the Board. This will be a working committee and will require a commitment of a significant amount of time. We have made every effort to ensure that the membership is inclusive of all sectors of the NC State community.

Public Forums
We will be conducting public forums to ask you, the College community, for your thoughts and ideas on the development of the presidential profile to help our consultants recruit the most qualified candidates from around the country. Two public meetings have been scheduled for Thursday April 3, 2008. These meetings will take place in the James W. Kehoe Center Auditorium (room 006) from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. and in Kee Hall rooms 128A&B from 12:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M.

We want to encourage everyone to participate in the public forums and provide input into the development of the presidential profile. This is an opportunity to learn more about the process, the timeline and recruitment and how you can become involved when we bring the final candidates to participate in open public forums.
