                  Changing Paper Types on the HP 4100 Printers with Wordperfect 6.1

We are starting to see hardware that no longer works with some of the older programs that we still use on campus.  One example of this is exhibited by the new Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4100 Series printers.  If you are using Microsoft Word 2000, automatically printing to letterhead paper is as easy as telling the program that that is what you want to do.  Unfortunately, its not quite so easy when using WordPerfect.

These steps assume that the printer setup hasn't been changed since installation.  By default, letterhead paper should be loaded in tray two and plain paper should be loaded in tray three.

Step 1:  Create your document as you would normally without telling Wordperfect to use letterhead paper.

Step 2:  To print the document choose File and then Print or click on the printer icon in the toolbar.

Step 3.  Click the button that is labeled SELECT.

Step 4.  Make sure the the Windows: Default Printer is selected.

Step 5.  Click the button that is labeled OPTIONS.

Step 6.  Choose SETUP from the drop down menu that appears when you clicked the OPTIONS button in step 5.

Step 7.  When the printer properties windows comes up, click on the PAPER tab.  The illustration below shows the default setup for the printer when printing on plain paper. 

Step 8.  To print your document on letterhead (first page letterhead all others plain) make the exact choices you see in the illustration below.

Step 9.  Once you have the above choices made, click on the tab labeled OTHER PAGES to choose the paper and location for the rest of the document.

11. When you have set up the printer properties properly, click the button at the bottom of the window that is labeled OK.  This will return you to the printer window in Wordperfect where you can finally print out your document.

12.  After printing a document on letterhead, return to the properties page for the printer and reset the parameters for normal printing.  If you don't, everything else you print will be printed on letterhead paper.
