At the July 18, 2003 meeting, the Web Strategy Team finalized the strategic roadmap for the NC State website thru August 2004. The team based this roadmap on feedback from the NC State College community in the form of various surveys. Using this feedback, the Team prioritized and condensed related items to create the following roadmap: Short Range Goals

GOAL STATUS Evaluate the existing Pagemaster Program to see how this setup can be improved to work better The Web Strategy Team has met with the Pagemasters. From that meeting, a Pagemaster "Toolbox" is under development, as well as pagemaster inclusion in the digital media assistants project bazaar. Re-organize and Beef up the academic Program pages to be more attractive, easier to navigate and have more content The Team has met with most of the Academic pagemasters and together did a joint brain storm session on improving the program pages. The academic pages have been re-worked and streamlined. The certificate pages are in the process of a receiving a similar treatment:
BEFORE Page | AFTER PageWork on gathering and organizing Student Testimonials for the web for both the college at large and specific programs This item ties in with the "Think Different" campaign integration and beefing up academic program pages content. Academic Pagemasters are submitting testimonial candidates to Alice Hutzel-Bateson. Evaluate, Re-organize the Online Advisor program A call for faculty volunteers went out and seven NC State faculty offered office hours in the chat room for the final month of Spring quarter. Response was very sparse with students. An 'Online Advisor Q&A' discussion board was added to the advisor page for times between chat sessions and may be used for future faculty sessions. Establish Cashier's Office & Institutional Advancement websites The Cashier's Office site is online & the IA site initial content is being gathered by the IA Pagemaster. Create a virtual online suggestion box HR is finalizing the syntax for this and the webmaster will then put it online. Integrate new Fall ad campaign into look and feel of website Images and verbiage from existing campaign materials are being gathered for web "repurposing" Establish and integrate Adjunct Faculty information into existing department and faculty listings and establish a procedure to regularly update this information Business Division, Engineering, Health Sciences & Student Success Center Academic Pagemasters have published their current Adjunct lists on their divisional Faculty/staff listings. This information is being integrated and linked to from the main Faculty Directory page. The pagemasters will now update these adjunct listings quarterly and the webmaster or HR pagemaster will in turn update the main faculty directory accordingly quarterly as well. Integrate "Distance Ed" info more closely into regular class listings Distance Ed info has been linked to from the course descriptions, academics and current course search/class schedule page. Develop a proposal for an "Electronic Media Project Assistants" pool A "project bazaar" website is now online. Faculty or pagemasters can post projects to be done and digital media students can "sign out" projects. Also, the first DMT interns are in place for Spring quarter 04. Add more visuals of campus into the website Pictures of campus are being sorted through for use on the site short-term. Also, the Web Redesign Team has taken this goal under advisement for the August '04 redesign. Medium Range Goals

GOAL STATUS Overall Site Re-organization & Re-Design - A Web Redesign Team has been formed and is working on this. The team has conducted a series of Usability test on the site content and is sifting through the data. An interim makeover and refresh of the site navigation bar, front page and academic pages has been done in the meantime. Online Registration - Up and running for Spring Quarter 2004 registration!! Conversion of College Catalog to Electronic format CASS has formed a sub-committee to address this issue. The subcommittee is considering various options, technologies and methodologies are will make a recommendation to CASS shortly. Add content and re-organize Departmental web sites to be easier to navigate Training sessions in content usability have been offered to NC State Pagemasters. Further training and development resources will be offered as well. Develop a program to get Faculty web pages more beefed up with course content The ad hoc Distance Learning Team is discussing how this effort may be folded into the forth-coming Blackboard standardization effort. Investigate and/or Develop a proposal to get a campus license for the Blackboard course management system The college has obtained a Blackboard server and licensing the basic edition of Blackboard. The server will be live August 1, 2004. Blackboard will be offering onsite training in September. Adidtionally 24/7 phone and chat support will be available through Presidium. IT and the Distance Learning Advisory Team are finalizing plans for rollout and training to standardize the college e-learning activities on the Blackboard platform. Develop a Site Map feature for the website This is currently being drafted, with a target rollout date of Fall '04. Refine Cocoa Web Interface The MyNCState-Faculty interface is being re-worked for a more user-friendly design. This is loosely slated for a Fall '04 rollout. MyNCState-Student will be next. Establish Video/Audio Streaming Capabilities for the college A RealNetworks Server has been setup. Additionally, through various Multimedia Lab equipment, audio and video content can be created and embedded in web pages using the existing NC State web server.
