The money was awarded by OLN’s Northwest Regional Center as part of the Learning Communities Initiative. The Learning Community Initiative is designed to “support communities of learners as they innovate, experiment, assess, embed, and share new and effective ways to use technology in teaching and learning.”
Four NC State representatives attended the initial grant kick-off at Bowling Green State University on October 19. The attendees got to network with representatives from other regional colleges who also had projects funded by this grant. Other institutions awarded money under this grant include: Terra Community College, Lorain County Community College, Bowling Green State University, BGSU-Firelands, Owens Community College & Northwest State Community College. Each of the colleges, including the NC State group, made a brief presentation to introduce their project to the others.
All faculty who complete the certificate requirements will be offered the opportunity to participate in a Learning Community. This learning community will: be a peer group to share experiences, learning objects, mentor each other putting the skills learned in the certificate program into practice, survey their students to measure the impact and effectiveness of their technology use, develop best practices resources and materials for all NC state faculty and serve as an advisory body to the TLTR.
Certificate classes began being offered to faculty starting Fall quarter. A break week Basic Certificate Boot Camp will be offered December 11 thru 15. For more information: see www.ncstatecollege.edu/bootcamp or contact Mike Renock-Welker – mrw@ncstatecollege.edu or 419.755.4706 |
