Introduction Bio

Through the years, the more things change...

When Henry Fallerius persisted in advocating for the formation of the North Central Technical Institute (the forerunner of North Central Technical College and North Central State College), that vision was based on the real needs of students seeking to meet the real needs of business and industry in our region. He believed a technical college could help students develop valuable skills that could be used as the foundation for a career. In the process, he helped countless youth find their talent, their calling, and their place in the world. These students became workers and leaders throughout the communities we serve.

...The more they stay the same.

Today, North Central State College remains a solid leader of higher education throughout the north central Ohio region. While technology and many of the courses have changed, what remains is our commitment to supply education that is in-demand right here in our area. NC State continues to supply the skills and experience that students need to get good jobs in demanding careers in healthcare, business, manufacturing and public service throughout our region.

Recently, a number of coalitions have brought together business leaders from throughout the area to study the needs of their industry, and others in our region. They have identified a number of jobs requiring updated skills, or where changes in processes and technology require entirely new sets of job skills. They also identified jobs in health fields and engineering technologies where vacancies exist because qualified employees cannot be found to fill them.

North Central State is again stepping up to meet the needs of business. We have developed an Associate Degree program in Health Services Technology that will allow students to earn their degree by combining the successful completion of multiple certificates. Any number of skill combinations is available, and students can be employed using the skills from their first certificate, while they complete their associate degree by earning other certificates.

By partnering with other educational institutions, we offer Bioscience pathways to prepare students to work in local research facilities and alternative energy startups, or pursue additional training to qualify for medical research, agriculture research, even become a Pharmacist.

North Central State College will offer both the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Health Services Technology degree programs in Fall 2009, to meet the needs of these growing fields.

As well, the college faculty are developing new programs to meet the needs of manufacturing, currently available as an Associate of Technical Studies degree program:

  • Mechatronics which combines skills of mechanical engineering with electronics;
  • Industrial Technology - Tool and Die option;

Students can find more than 50 on-line and hybrid class options to better fit their busy lives and scheduling challenges. Recently, The Higher Learning Commission awarded approval to NC State to offer the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degrees, paving the way for ease of credit transfer to colleges and universities. . . at attractive cost savings.

I’m proud to serve as the fourth President of North Central State College. We have a long history of innovation and leadership, and I’m committed to uphold those traditions throughout my tenure here at the College. We have caring instructors who are engaged and dedicated to meeting the needs of our students, and equipping them with the skills they need to succeed.

These are trying times. Challenges to our region are numerous and complex. There are no easy, or quick, solutions. Together, we can raise the level of educational attainment throughout north central Ohio. Our community will ultimately be the winner of this progress. Business today requires skills that weren’t even thought of forty years ago. NC State will continue to provide training, and solutions through these times, and into the future.

Over the past four decades, more than 11,000 graduates of NCTC and NC State College have taken their place in businesses throughout Ohio and around the world. North Central State College remains a smart choice of our alumni as well as for this generation of students, and the next.
