What You’ll Do
Install, troubleshoot, and upgrade automation equipment used in manufacturing. Design and modify software used in computer-controlled manufacturing. Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are important in this field.
Where You Could Go
Work settings include manufacturing facilities which serve a host of industries. Automation Work-cell, Electrical Power Distribution Facility, Electrical/Electronic Device Repair Lab, Sensor and Instrument Calibration Lab, Process Control and Waste, Disposal Lab – Water Treatment Facility, Automotive Glass Manufacturing Facility.
Many graduates continue their education in various vendor-specific training workshops, or by transferring to a four year college to complete their bachelor’s degree.
NC State has over 40 agreements with four-year colleges and universities, to provide a smooth transition for students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Through university partnerships, some four-year courses are also offered on the NC State campus or online.

Average starting salaries range from $32,000 to $45,000 annually in north central Ohio.
