New Opportunities in Education
By enrolling in the Education Para-Professional program, you could work in public education while you study at NC State to become an Education Para-Professional. This new Education Para-Professional Associate Degree program is one step toward becoming a teacher and a great, hands-on way to find out if teaching is the field for you.
Education Para-Professionals, formerly called Teacher’s Aides, are in big demand. As the shortage of teachers increases, so does the shortage of Education Para-Professionals.
Where You Can Go
Through an agreement with Ashland University’s Education Department, the next step – obtaining a teacher’s license - is simplified for you. There is a formal agreement which allows our graduates to continue toward their bachelor’s degree at Ashland University.
In addition, NC State has over 40 agreements with four-year colleges and universities, to provide a smooth transition for students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Through university partnerships, some four-year courses are also offered on the NC State campus or online.

A new, federal law requires that educational aides have an
associate degree or equivalent. This NC State program was
developed in response to this change.
