Jobs Waiting for
Bioscience Grads

One of the newest areas of study at North Central State College is Bioscience. Bioscience is the study of science and its interaction with the natural world - be it human, plants, animals, etc.

Good jobs await graduates in the field of bioscience right here in north central Ohio. And this industry is projected to grow, and remain stable, for the foreseeable future. Ohio has twice the number of medical and clinical technicians as the national average. Technicians regionally earn an average $15.80 per hour with related work experience and/or an associate degree. There is evidence that the biosciences will remain a strong regional and state industry.

For more information on the Bioscience program at North Central State College, contact Jim Hull at 419-755-4805 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

A consortium of businesses, education providers and nonprofit organizations was established to promote resources for recruiting and developing the regional bioscience industry. Through partnerships of local education providers, both high school and adult students can begin their study at Ashland West Holmes Career Center (a similar program is being developed at the Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby), then enroll in NC State’s bioscience associate of science degree program, and finally pursue their bachelor’s degree and beyond at Ashland University.

Jim Hull, dean of Health Sciences and Public Service, North Central State College sees this partnership as a model for more programs, “Education is the key to improving income, and this partnership will translate into more high-paying jobs for our communities.”

While the entry-level bioscience research pathway is one option for students, numerous other directions are also available for employment and further study. These include pharmaceutical development, agricultural research, forensic science, and product testing. This flexible curriculum will allow students to develop valuable skills that will be applicable in a variety of job settings.
