Education Pathway

These represent sample pathways for the Associate of Arts in Education (AA-ED) at NC State. This degree is designed for transfer to a four-year university for continued study and specialization in a bachelor’s of education degree. These courses where noted are also guaranteed to individually transfer to any public Ohio college or university under Ohio Transfer 36 (general education). This is just a sample. There are numerous courses that could apply toward this pathway, and with noted exceptions they do not have to be taken in this order. 1 Ohio Transfer 36 (OT36): Transferable general education courses regardless of major. Students should consult the state Transfer Module Grid for limits on credit hours by area that are guaranteed general education transfer. Ohio Transfer Assurance Guides (TAG): Technical courses transferable to certain major areas above and beyond OT36 courses. In limited instances a course could have both an OT36 and TAG label.
2 Placement: proof of college readiness in English (ACT English >=18 or Accuplacer WritePlacer=>5) AND ACT Reading score >= 21 or Accuplacer Next-Generation Reading score >= 250). If these scores are not achieved, students have a secondary option of providing evidence of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in high school courses with a B or above in the 11th grade English class OR a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in high school courses OR recommendations from high school English instructor AND counselor.
3 Placement: STAT 1010 requires proof of college readiness in math (ACT Math Score =>22 or Accuplacer Next-Generation Quantitative Reasoning score =>263). If these scores are not achieved, students have a secondary option of providing evidence of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in high school courses with a B or above in a higher-level mathematics class (Algebra II or above) OR recommendations from high school mathematics instructor AND counselor.
4 Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL 1010 with a C- or better.
5 Students must test out of OR complete ENGL-0040 with a C- or above before beginning HUMA-1010.
