The group reviewed minutes from last meeting; however, approval of meeting minutes was tabled. Discussion followed regarding detail of minutes and whether meeting minutes should be posted on the intranet. The group also questioned whether or not other Achieving the Dream (AtD) committees were taking minutes and if these minutes will be posted.
Approval tabled. Minutes will be reviewed for editing and revisions at next meeting.
It was agreed that this committee's minutes will be posted as a part of strengthening college communication efforts.
T. Bushner will share discussion regarding encouraging other AtD committees to post minutes at next AtD Core team meeting.
AGENDA TOPIC: Ideas for advertising achieving the dream message
K. Lybarger shared brief 'snippets' - simple, brief messages describing AtD. The group discussed notion of 'celebrating' our own students and capturing these 'success' stories. It was felt that being able to personalize the message of AtD would help with 'buy in'. The group also felt that the stories would be an opportunity to share how faculty/staff and different departments worked together to help students to succeed and to have individuals begin thinking how each of us impact student success.
D. Strauss suggested taking a few moments at the Staff In-Service to share AtD message. M. Durham shared story of a student-parent and will forward to N. Workman.
P. Herb shared that she (as well as other faculty) receive cards from students that could be used as stories.
S. Luckie suggested creating a slide show using 'snippets' and success stories that could be shown during breakfast, lunch, and other 'down time' during the Staff In-Service.
T. Bushner will contact Carol Easley regarding Staff In-service Day to discuss the following: posting AtD awareness pieces and putting 'snippets' on tables, if speaker is aware of AtD and encouraging the mentioning of AtD during Divisional/Departmental meetings as time and agendas permit.
K. Lybarger and D. Strauss will develop additional 'snippets'.
The group would like to gather success stories from faculty and staff.
AGENDA TOPIC: PRESENTATION OF MARKETING IDEAS by Keith Stoner
K. Stoner shared marketing materials. The ideas build upon current message: 'Believe. Achieve. Succeed.' The group felt that the new materials tied the college's current campaign and AtD together well - keep the focus on NC State not just the initiative.
B. Wells shared the reflections from a community engagement group regarding the need of the marketing materials being truly reflective of the college's student population.
B. Wells shared efforts of Data team and their recommendation that a series of briefs be distributed in order to update the larger campus community on their progress. She posed the question that would this be an opportunity to educate ourselves (the college campus) about community colleges.
The group discussed how the committee wanted to move forward from this point: Reactive vs. Proactive.
Focus of the next meeting should be on developing strategies for communication and creating a model that can be used in the future by the college.
Next committee meeting: Tuesday, November 29th, 2005 - from 3:00 - 5:00 pm - Room 127 Fallerius
