Strategy Forum/Action Projects

NC State’s Strategy Forum Team attended the February 2009 AQIP Strategy Forum in Lisle, Illinois.  The purpose of attending the Forum was “to craft practical and important improvement strategies (aqip.org)” that would improve the College’s quality culture.  Team members were Nathan Ujvari (Chair, Board of Trustees), Don Plotts (President), Brad McCormack (VP of Business Services), Tom Prendergast (Director Institutional Research), Gina Kamwithi (Director Distance Learning), Ross Justice (Faculty and Curriculum Committee Chair), Stephanie Kreisher (Adjunct Faculty Liaison) and Kate Peresie (Faculty and AQIP Liaison).

The Team conducted research at and about the College in preparation for the Forum, resulting in the following reports:

Results:  The Team began preliminary work on two Action Projects – Strategic Professional Development and Updating the Systems Portfolio.

Strategic Professional Development:  Based on the Systems Appraisal Feedback Report, input from key stakeholder groups and research (reported above) at the College, the Team chose to focus its planning on professional development processes as part of AQIP Category 4 Valuing People.

o   The Team identified some strategies to improve professional development.

o   Upon return, President Plotts charged the leaders of Faculty Caucus, Staff Caucus, and Managers Advisory Council to lead this Action Project.

Updating the Systems Portfolio:  Charged to work on a project that would advance the quality infrastructure and culture at the College, the Team rated the College's current quality culture and infrastructure and  determined that processes for keeping the College’s Systems Portfolio current needed improvement.

o   The Team identified causes and effects related to the process.

o   Upon return, President Plotts is leading discussion concerning the integration of AQIP processes with other planning processes at the College.
