NC State IST Curriculum & Lab
The Integrated Systems Technology (IST) lab uses training equipment that was originally designed for Caterpillar, Inc. The equipment was designed to provide up to date training using practices and tools that are currently used in industrial plants. Students will learn how state of the art manufacturing systems function and are maintained. The curriculum integrates these industrial processes, computer based simulation, interactive computer learning modules, and instructor led activities. Some of the innovative features of this curriculum are:

• Modular Instruction: The content and tasks are broken down into small segments that build on previous experiences and activities.
• Multi-Media Instruction: The computer based curriculum uses a combination of video, software, and industrial equipment to maintain high interest.
• Hands on Learning: Most of the instruction involves activities that include the theory and information content with the practical hands on activities. This approach keeps everyone focused on the current task and motivated to continue learning.
• Progressive Content: Each learning module builds on the basic concepts learned in previous modules to reinforce prior experiences and build knowledge as the individual progresses through the curriculum.
• Trouble Shooting: The curriculum takes a problem solving approach to challenge each individual to use the concepts learned and reinforces learning through application to real industrial problems.
• Modular Planning: The curriculum is designed in a modular style that provides small blocks of instruction. This approach provides constant evaluation, reinforcement, and obvious progress to more complicated tasks as each individual moves through the curriculum.
