The Physical Therapist Assistant is a skilled, technical, health worker, who, under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, assists in the patient's treatment program.  The extent of involvement of the Assistant depends on the policies and procedures of the health facility; the state laws governing the Assistant; the scope, size, and volume of the facility; and the needs of the patient.

The annual average beginning salary for a Physical Therapist Assistant is between $26,OOO and $28,000, depending upon the geographic location and the type of facility.

In Ohio, an individual must graduate from an accredited educational program prior to making application to take the licensure examination.  An individual must pass this exam prior to working as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA).

Employment opportunities within the Mansfield area at various types of facilities is good.  The state and national job market is good and indications are that they will remain good until at least the year 2008.

Career opportunities for advancement of areas of special interest depend on the type and size of facility, supervising Physical Therapist, and the individual's performance.  Areas of advancement may include: Senior PTA or Director of PTA.  A special interest may include pediatrics, geriatrics, aquatics, or orthopedics.
