AIT 100 - INTRODUCTION TO KEYBOARDING
3 credit hours; 3 class hours
Provides an introduction to keyboard operation for the student who has had previous keyboarding instruction. Emphasis is placed on the mastery of appropriate technique as the student learns to key the letters, numbers, and symbols by touch.
Designed to strengthen student knowledge of communication/language arts skills and related decision-making skills through the use of realistic business documents and correspondence in the following areas: punctuation, vocabulary, capitalization, number expression, abbreviation usage, grammar usage, homonyms, misused similar words, subject-verb agreement, pronoun rules, composition, and proofreading.
Provides formatting and word processing instruction by using Microsoft Word software. Topics include : introduction of basic word processing functions; proper formatting of business letters, memos and reports with footnotes; tables; graphics; multi-column newsletters; and customization of documents through the use of themes and templates . Drill practice is integrated to develop speed and accuracy. Proofreading and editing techniques are also emphasized.
AIT 112 - INTERMEDIATE DOCUMENTATION FORMATTING/WORD PROC
4 credit hours; 4 class hours
A continuation of AIT 110 which includes advanced Word functions and increasingly demanding standards for speed and accuracy. Topics include: formatting of multi-page letters and multi-page reports with special features, tables with calculations; advanced graphic features; merging main documents with various data source documents; and an office simulation project. Speed and accuracy drills are included as well as proofreading and editing techniques.
AIT 113 - ADVANCED DOCUMENT FORMATTING/WORD PROCESSING
4 credit hours; 4 class hours
A continuation of AIT 112 with increasingly stringent standards for speed and accuracy. Topics include: organizing content through the use of Quick Parts, building blocks, and field codes; collaborating through the use of track changes and comparing and merging document versions; customizing templates and styles; creating a table of authorities; sharing and securing the content of documents; creating employment documents; and an integrated office project. Speed and accuracy drills are included as well as proofreading and editing techniques.
Combines the specific concepts of records administration with basic management principles. It includes the criteria by which records are created, classified, stored, retrieved, retained, transferred, and destroyed or archived. Procedures for the operation and control of manual and electronic storage systems are explained, as well as the principles for the selection of records personnel, equipment, and supplies.
Designed to develop the necessary competencies for success in today's office. Topics include: job definitions and responsibilities, the office environment, time and task management, telecommunications, composition of business correspondence, presentation of business reports, making travel arrangements, planning meetings and conferences, human relations, the employment process, and the office professional's future.
