Disability Assessment If you know or feel you have a
learning disability and you would like to receive assistance through the
Office of Disability Services,
but you do not have recent (within 3yrs) documentation that shows that
you have a learning disability, you will need to have completed, a
Learning Disability Assessment (LD Assessment).
Assessments to determine
whether or not you have a learning disability must be done by a licensed
psychologist. You may
purchase this service from any licensed psychologist who is set up to
and willing to provide this service.
The LD Assessment report must include, not only the diagnoses of
your specific learning disability, but also a listing of recommended
accommodations the college should arrange for you. The accommodations do
not guarantee success, but are designed to give you an equal chance for
success. This academic year North
Central State College has made arrangements for this service to be
provided, to students for a nominal fee.
A licensed psychologist will test you, and, based on the test
results, determine whether or not you have a learning disability.
If you do have a
learning disability the psychologist will also recommend accommodations
the college should arrange for you.
Again, the accommodations do not guarantee success, but are
designed to give you an equal chance for success.
If the testing results
do not indicate that a learning disability exists, the psychologist will
make suggestions of what the student may do to help him/her to be
successful in their academic coursework. Referral: Students
may refer themselves by contacting the Coordinator
of Specialized Services. Or, if the student expresses the
possibility that he may have a learning disability to an instructor or
advisor, their instructor or advisor may refer him to the Office of Disability
Services. Eligibility: Any current or prospective student may request this service. Fees: There is a fee for this
service. Please contact the
Coordinator of Specialized
Services for more information. |
