The Tablet PC is the next step in PC evolution.  Imagine a laptop crossed with a PalmPilot and you are pretty much have the Tablet PC.

You can interact with a Tablet PC with a traditional mouse and keyboard but a Tablet PC also adds the ability to interact with your computer with a stylus just like a PalmPilot.

The real breakthru on the Tablet PC is in the "digital ink" technology. This technology allows you to take notes and make annotations in your own handwriting. However, with any "ink-aware" software, you can use your handwriting to enter text into programs such as word or Powerpoint.

Add in to this mix the integrated wireless internet access capability and you have a robust and dynamic pc experience.

The Tablet PCs can be used in "slate/tablet" form or attached to a keyboard and used like a conventional notbeook.

What This Equipment Can Be Used For:

The on the fly collaborative possibilities of the Tablet PC in a classroom environment are outstanding. For group work where you need to share information or in a lab situation where students and instructor would want to share documents, the Tablet PC presents new opportunities teamed with a desktop sharing application such as "vision" or "groove."

This Summer, limited trials will be conducted by faculty volunteers in various disciplines. Once these trials have been completed, the two Tablet PCs will be made available for check-out like other loaner equipment. In the meantime, check back to this page for updates on the trials.
