Students are evaluated using letter grades and a four-point scale. All grades are averaged in order to arrive at the quarterly and accumulative grade-point averages as stated on the grade report. The following example characterizes the method used to determine grade-point averages:
FIRST QUARTER
Credit Hours Point Value of Letter Grade Quality Points Total Credit Hours Grade-Point Average Course 1 3 x 3.33 (B+) = 9.99 Course 2 3 x 4.00 (A) = 12.00 Course 3 3 x 2.00 (C) = 6.00 Course 4 4 x 1.67 (C-) = 6.68 Course 5 5 x 3.00 (B) = 15.00 18 49.67 ¸ 18 = 2.76 SECOND QUARTER
Course 1 3 x 3.67 (A-) = 11.01 Course 2 3 x 2.33 (C+) = 6.99 Course 3 4 x 2.67 (B-) = 10.68 Course 4 4 x 1.00 (D) = 4.00 Course 5 4 x 3.33 (B+) = 13.32 18 46.00 ¸ 18 = 2.56 Cumulative Cumulative Cumulative Quality Points Credit Hours Grade-Point Average 95.67 36 = 2.66 In the example above, the student’s first quarter grade-point average is 2.76, second quarter grade-point average is 2.56, and cumulative grade-point average is 2.66. The grade-point average is determined by multiplying the credit hours for each course times the point value of the letter grade assigned to that course, totaling the resulting quality points, and dividing by the total number of credit hours. Courses which are graded P/NP, I, W, X, K, R, NR are not included in the computation of a grade-point average.
